Planting

Your dahlia is not meant to stay in this pot all season. Dahlias will grow better if transplanted into the ground.

Option #1

Dig a large hole and place the entire contents of the pot into the hole, trying not to disturb the roots. Be sure to water immediately after transplanting, then follow our growing instructions in the Growing Guide.

Option #2

The entire pot may be buried in the ground to not disturb the roots of the growing dahlia. The plastic pot may eventually break during the growing season due to the root and tuber growth.

Option #3

If you need to keep the plant in a container, please move it to a larger pot (minimum of 15” depth x 15” diameter) and follow instructions on page 15 of our Growing Guide.

Watering, Fertilizing and Pests

Our Growing Guide includes a wealth of information to help you be successful growing dahlias. Take a little time to read about important dahlia care. We also have helpful growing information on our How to Grow pages.
