  • "I wanted to tell you how wonderfully your dahlias are performing in my garden, despite the fact that they have had less than perfect conditions! Tall, Wild and Beautiful

Of all the dahlias I planted this year I enjoyed this one very the most. Very tall single purple flowers. It did not start blooming until the fall but lasted from September to the end of October. The bees seemed to like it. I had it growing with some giant orange Tithonia and purple Amistad sage. It was a great combination. I will plant them again next year. It was a good increaser. I dug up many tubers today.
Garden Surprise

This came up 2 years ago in my garden. I have finally found out what the flower is: D. Sorensenii (Wild Dahlia). Last year it was maybe 2 1/2 feet tall; this year it is 5 feet tall!! Seems to spread by self and loves to have roots shaded at base of large davidii. Closes at night, opens in the morning, and my flowers seem to last 4 or 5 days. I am saving flower heads this fall to see if I can start from seed next spring. Color in photo is quite accurate: pinkish mauve. It is a delightful and fun plant.
Definitely Different

This one grew very tall where it was planted, over 6 feet tall. In retrospect I should of trimmed it short when I had the chance. All blooms are at the very top of the plant, so one would have to use a step-stool to get a good view of them. The blooms last only a few days, but there are many of them. The local bees adore it though! It's great to have it around just for that reason.
