  • "I wanted to tell you how wonderfully your dahlias are performing in my garden, despite the fact that they have had less than perfect conditions! Product Description

JUNKYARD DOG (N) Introduced in 2004. If you are looking for the unusual, this one is it! Striking 7" blooms with long, slightly pointed petals that look as if each one has been hand painted a magenta color, with a bit of cream bleeding through. Just a touch of yellow at the base of the petal gives it a sunburst effect from the open fuzzy yellow center. Although the bush height will reach 5', it stays upright and produces lots of flowers for spectacular garden color. Late bloomer.
**This product ships in the Spring.

Junkyard Dog really does look like its petals are painted--as advertised. So interesting. Right now, it's not as tall. This may due to a semi-shady location.
What kind of flower is that?!

I love JD and received rave reviews all summer long.
He loves me, he loves me not...

Gorgeous blooms frequent this plant, but sparse petals fall almost as frequently. His rare beauty, though short-lived, creates quite the drama in the garden!
Not what I expected but...
David Reynolds (San Francisco, CA) 6/16/2013 10:30 PM
It was NOT a magenta for me - more like a faded pink with dirty white outline. I didn't see that 'star' (pinwheel) effect either. However, I have found that many first year dahlias need a year or two of seasoning before they look like their pictures, so I am hoping this year will be up to par.
