  • "I wanted to tell you how wonderfully your dahlias are performing in my garden, despite the fact that they have had less than perfect conditions! I live in humid Georgia and all but the biggest bloomed plants are prolifically producing gorgeous flowers. I'm new to dahlias but they couldn't be easier or more rewarding. Thanks so much--"

Great Color

This variety has great color and substance, but hasn't worked great as a cut flower as the bottom petals are often wilting before the bloom has even opened completely.

I grow this one every year. It's one of my favorites. The red stripes are never the same. It does bloom late but I plant mine early in pots inside. You never know when you can get them in the ground in Michigan. Works great that way, I get Dahlias blooming in July.
Compact bush with a half dozen blooms for 2012
Leah Brine (Canby, OR) 3/25/2013 3:50 PM
This plant grew slowly into a 3' tall compact bush over the summer of 2012. Blooming began around second week in Sept. with around 9-10" blooms. I was a little disappointed because some of the blooms did not open entirely before petals began to drop, and the plant only managed about one to two blooms at a time with a total of around six for the summer, and the stems are extremely short, so it does not make a good cut variety. However, since this is my first experience with dinner plates this may be normal. That aside, the variegation of the red on the peachy colored petals is really unique and the shape of the bloom is eye catching.
